These earrings continue my investigation into surface pattern, inspired by my recent visit to Japan

Oxidised sterling silver and green vitreous enamel earrings.
The enamel is applied to 0.8mm thick sterling silver.
Black overglaze is applied to the fired enamel, dried, then removed to create a gingham design on the surface.

'Ovenwear' is part a new series of works utilising existing pre-enamelled steel to create wearable objects.
These works began with an oven tray found at Reverse Garbage, which I cut up, retaining the existing shapes and forms within the tray.
While creating these works, I found myself reflecting on the nature of stuff and the meaning of its’ experiences. Visions of my 1960’s and 1970’s childhood as part of a big family where domestic life often revolved around the kitchen were in my mind, and subconsciously I found myself choosing the evocative colours of the era for the enamelling process.
